BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Service rests on the basic premise that the nature of life is sacred, that life is a holy mystery which has an unknown purpose. When we serve we know that we belong to life and to that purpose…”

“In the Service of Life,” Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.

Weinstein Hospice volunteers are essential and valued members of the interdisciplinary hospice team. With your loving presence, Weinstein Hospice will serve our families with quality care, understanding and compassion. Whether you choose to help in the office, work on special projects, assist with community outreach or visit with patients and their families, we welcome you to become part of the Weinstein Hospice family.

Volunteers are required to attend an extensive orientation designed to deepen your understanding of the following learning objectives:

  • Hospice and palliative care philosophy and concepts of care;
  • " Nuts and bolts" of Weinstein Hospice care;
  • Volunteer’s role as a member of the hospice interdisciplinary team; and
  • Self-awareness in terms of your strengths and vulnerabilities in your role as a hospice volunteer.

The Weinstein Hospice orientation marks the beginning of opportunities to learn, share and receive support from each other as we discover the challenges and rewards of hospice service. It is common to hear our volunteers express, "I get so much more out of this experience than I could ever give…"
