Hospice Care

What is Hospice Care?

Hospice care is a specialized care designed to provide support to you and your loved ones during an advanced illness. Hospice care focuses on comfort and quality of life, rather than cure. The goal of hospice care is to enable you to live each day as fully as possible.

What We Offer

  • Physical, emotional, social, and spiritual support personalized for each patient and family
  • Services provided where the patient resides, whether in their own home, apartment, assisted living, or skilled nursing facility
  • Partnerships with other organizations to serve patients who require care in a hospice facility
  • Nurses and social workers available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to address critical needs
  • Patients, their family and friends, experience illness or the end of life with less trauma, more dignity and peace through:
  • Bereavement support for families for one year following the death of their loved one

The Hospice Team Includes

  • The Hospice Medical Director who offers medical consultation for symptom control
  • The Hospice Director who manages staff and daily program operations
  • The patient’s attending physician who can remain involved in care if desired
  • Registered nurses who provide pain and other symptom control and manage the patient’s medical needs
  • Certified nursing assistants who help with activities of daily living…eating, dressing, bathing
  • Social workers who provide emotional and family support including counseling, financial guidance and access to community resources
  • Bereavement counselors who provide support for 13 months following the death of a loved one
  • Compassionate, well-trained volunteers who provide companionship, practical assistance from assisting with daily chores and respite to caregivers

  • Other consultants as needed

Who Pays for It

Patients and families do not pay directly for care from Weinstein Hospice. Medicare/Medicaid and most private insurance plans have a hospice benefit. In addition, Weinstein Hospice is supported by generous gifts from our community. No one will be turned away due to an inability to pay.

The Facts

    • We serve the greater community by (caring for the sick) bikkur cholim, (bringing comfort to the bereaved) nichum avelim, and (celebrating life) l’chaim
    • We incorporate the principle of (acts of loving kindness) gemilut chasadim every day
    • Our nurses and social workers carry a smaller caseload of patients than other hospices, so we are able to offer more personalized care
